Training Drills

TRAINING TIPS

  • Studies have shown that it is very important that you keep your Training SIMPLE!

  • It is important to understand that the weak Foot is both YEARS and THOUSANDS of repetitions behind your dominant foot.

  • We recommend that you do not introduce a defender into any of your drills for at least 3 months of training.

  • Let the player get comfortable and let MUSCLE MEMORY take over.

  • This will allow them to be a ‘Complete Player’ as quickly as possible.

  • 15 minutes of DAILY training will result in the best possible DEVELOPMENT for your player.

Dribbling 1

Set up 2 cones approximately 20 yards apart. Start at one of the cones and dribble towards the other one. When you reach the other cone go round it or do a turn and head back in the direction you came from and repeat. Remember, you are focusing on using your weak foot and not letting the ball stick to the BF2!

Dribbling 2

Set up a square that is approximately 20 x 20 yards. The idea of this drill is to stay inside of the square and practice your freestyle dribbling. Remember, you are focusing on using your weak foot and not letting the ball stick to the BF2!

Dribbling 3

Set out 10 cones, each of them about 2-3 yards apart and dribble between them using only your non dominant foot. When you get to the top, turn and dribble back through the cones that you came through. Remember, you are focusing on using your weak foot and not letting the ball stick to the BF2!

Dribbling 4

Set out 10 cones in random locations. Head in any direction and aim to dribble around all of the different cones in any order. Remember, you are focusing on using your weak foot and not letting the ball stick to the BF2!

Passing 1

Set up 2 cones 15 yards apart and stand opposite your partner. Pass the ball with your non dominant foot to your partner. You partner should control it with their non dominant foot. Take a touch and pass back to your partner. If you are successful with this drill try adding a ‘gate’ with 2 cones and when you receive the ball from your partner, take a touch through the ‘gate’ and pass it back to your partner who can do the same thing.

Passing 2

Set up 3 cones in a straight line that are 10 yards apart from each other. Place a soccer ball on the cone in the middle. Stand opposite your partner next to the 2 cones that are furthest apart from each other. Taking it in turns, you will pass the ball with your non dominant foot and try to knock the ball off the cone. See how many times you can hit the ball in 1 minute!

Passing 3

Find a wall or a return net / goal. Standing 10-15 yards away from it, pass the ball against the wall with your non dominant foot. When the ball comes back to you trap the ball with your non dominant foot. Take a touch to get the ball out of your feet and pass the ball against the wall again and repeat the drill. Remember, you are focusing on using your weak foot and not letting the ball stick to the BF2!

Shooting 1

Place one cone 10-15 yards from a goal post. Place the other cone 25 yards from the middle of the goal. Your partner will stand by the cone that is approximately 15 yards from the goal and you will stand by the cone that is 25 yards from the goal.  Pass the ball to your partner. They will then pass the ball back into your path. If you can, hit a ‘one-timer’ shot. If needed, take a touch to set yourself and shoot. Remember, you are focusing on using your weak foot and not letting the ball stick to the BF2!

Shooting 2

Place a cone 25 yards from the goal and in line with one of the goal posts. Your Partner will stand level with the goal posts. They will play the first pass to you. You need to hit a one time power shot when you are approximately 15 yards from goal. They will then pass you a 2nd ball and you should try and pass it into the corner of the net when you are approximately 6 yards from goal. This drill is practicing both power and finesse shooting.

Shooting 3

Place a cone 25 yards from the center of the goal. With your back to goal, you will receive the ball from your partner. Perform a turn or take a coupe of touches to get the ball out of your feet and set yourself for a shot on goal. Remember, you are focusing on using your weak foot and not letting the ball stick to the BF2!

Combo

Set out 10 cones, each of them about 2-3 yards apart. Do the same thing with another set of 10 cones that run parallel to the first set that you just laid out. You will then dribble through the cones using only your non dominant foot and then pass to your partner once you reach the end of the cones. Return to your starting position. Your partner will then dribble through the cones and pass back to you with their non dominant foot. Remember, you are focusing on using your weak foot and not letting the ball stick to the BF2!
